Attractions
Top
Kick back in the hot tub, take a dip in
Turtle pond, hike the Little Buffalo River or hike trails on the property. The
woods and river are incredibly adventurous and interesting. Newton County is the
heart of the Ozarks containing the steepest, most rugged and most beautiful
part.
The Turtle Rock area has abundant hiking
and equestrian trails. Field Point (Lover’s Leap) overlooking Turtle Rock
Retreat has a captivating view. There are many trails in the Ozark National
Forest contiguous to our property. If you are into mountain biking, you have
come to the right place.
Hike or take a guided horseback ride to
one of the oldest cabins in Newton County located on the property. The view from the
cabin is exceptional. The old stonework well is fabled to have the sweetest
water in the Ozark Mountains.
The Buffalo National River is a short drive. The Buffalo is a world famous
canoeing river. You will have good access to the early spring floating on the
upper river and the summer floating on the middle river. Canoe rental and
shuttle service is available.
We are located just 10 miles south west of Jasper for dining plus craft and
antique shopping in local shops with a great variety and very reasonable prices.
Caving: explore on your own at recreation areas like Lost Valley or call Mystic
Caverns, 870-743-1739, or Hurricane River Cave, 1-800-245-2282. Our neighbor, TJ
Ashworth, gives private guided tours of the Neal Cave on his property; call
(870) 861-5555 for an appointment. Advance notice is not usually required; you
just have to catch TJ at home.
Scenic Drives: Reader's Digest calls Arkansas Highway 7 one of the top ten
scenic drives in America. Be sure to take your camera for some breathtaking
mountaintop views.
Watchable Wildlife: Newton County is the Elk Capitol of Arkansas and you can
enjoy seeing our elk herd at many locations along the Buffalo River. We also
have a wonderful variety of wildlife ranging from whitetail deer, black bear,
gray and red squirrels, bald eagles, mountain blue birds, indigo buntings, king
fishers and great blue herons just to name a few. Interesting butterflies
abound.
A day trip to Eureka Springs, a Victorian spa city, can include attractions like
The Great Passion Play and the narrow gauge railroad. It's a pleasant drive. You
can tour the famous Crescent Hotel, visit the church entered through the dome,
enjoy fine dining, and see the turn of the century homes and buildings.
Branson, Missouri has great music shows and is an easy drive. You can choose
from country music, gospel, and comedy shows by some of the biggest names in the
business.
Wilderness Adventures: We have three wilderness areas nearby; the upper Buffalo,
Ponca and Richland.
Blanchard Springs Caverns: were described as "the cave find of the century" when
the huge, upper level was discovered in 1963. The multi-million dollar complex
was 10 years under development. Visitor tours are offered daily with the
exception of selected national holidays and some weekdays in the winter.
Reservations are recommended during heavy-use periods of summer and fall. For
current information and reservations call: 870-757-2211.
Crafts: You’ll find them here in the Ozarks, the same functional, beautiful
furniture, quilts, baskets, toys, and other treasures our ancestors made when
they came here in the early 1800s. Or, try a day trip to , Silver Dollar City
for shows, crafts, and family fun. Call 1-800-952-6626 for information.
